My partner and I cofounded a micro startup centered on a community-focused bike collective. In the process we decided to create some art to leverage the brand and vibe. In doing so, this fixie bike design was created as a result of explorative work around the bike styles and cycling culture in Denver, Colorado.
I covered the pre-stretched canvas in gesso and a base layer of purple paint before starting on the outline. Once the base purple had dried I copied over a sketch tracing of the bike outline to the canvas board with pencil. I then added several layers of white to the silhouette icon to create the white on purple silhouette. I then added some textured patterns in purple and pink to offset the icon and the background.
After sketching and deciding on an iconic fixie bike style the outcome of white silhouette on purple textured canvas was a good contrast. The added texture with multiple purple and pink hues in diagonal pattern across the background elevates the depth.
A lucky buyer will own the first original canvas version of this piece which will be turned into a print that will be replicated across mediums. The original is one-of-a-kind and will be an awesome addition to any trendy space.
