Opportunity

Project Summary

This was one of my earliest mixed media projects way back from high school. Our teacher had us experiment with different artistic techniques and during this project I challenged myself with a rather tedious Exacto cut job. I traced the pattern onto a thick heavy art paper and then painfully cut out all the individual shapes. I also used paint and mount board. Apparently I was into Egyptian art during this phase and tried to emulate some of the patterns

Approach

First I brainstormed and drew some of the patterns and figures to map out the composition. Then I traced the pattern onto a thick heavy art paper to create a border and tie it all together on one sheet. Then I began the painful process of cutting all the details and shapes out of the original heavy paper with an Exacto knife. This took a long time. Once it was completed I glued it to mat board and added some paint and details to polish the piece. Lastly, I framed the piece to keep it from getting destroyed as some of the cutout pieces are quite small and fragile.

Solution

The final piece turned out well with the contrast of texture from cutout paper pieces and the addition of black paint. The frame is a nice touch to house the piece safely for years to come. The Egyptian theme and pattern is eye-catching and would compliment a space well.

Impact

A lucky buyer will be pleased with this addition and the professionally framed final piece. The neutral colors would compliment many spaces and the piece can be mounted on any wall you choose.
